The last time I left you was over 6 months ago just before I got back home from my mis-adventures abroad. I’m here to tell you that a lot can happen in such a short period of time. See below for a rough timeline of the events that brought me back and my life since then.

  • December 1: Wonderful Café owner purchased bus ticket from Figueira da Foz to Lisbon Portugal

  • December 2: Bus trip to Lisbon

  • December 2-5: Lisbon stay while receiving help from the U.S. Embassy to get a flight back to the States

  • December 5: Flights home where I met the most amazing man and swapped stories with him

  • December 7: Homeless shelter check-in

  • December 7-March 12: Took some time to assess my life while recovering from burnout

  • March 13-April 12: Focusing on Mental Health

  • April 13: Doctor appointment I’ve avoided for years and learned my health is much worse than I imagined

  • April 13-April 17: Lowest week where I drowned my hopelessness with alcohol

  • April 17: Mental Health breakthrough

  • April 19: Healing journey begins

I have traveled to many distant places to find myself. In the end, I only needed to look inward for the answers I was searching for.

It feels like I’m a whole new person, and I finally know who I am and where I belong in the world. For the first time in my life, I know what my future looks like and why I have been put here.

Some may call it an epiphany, others may say a renewed sense of purpose.  I think it’s both.

I have had a realization about the life I’ve lived; almost an ah-ha moment. Every decision I have made and every turn in the road has led me to exactly where I am supposed to be.

Life has thrown so much at me lately and it’s very overwhelming to say the least. Obviously, life is not meant to be an easy road to travel. Our trials and tribulations help us to grow in ways that comfortability can’t.

Change doesn’t happen overnight; it takes continuous daily practice to make the choice to be better than the person you were the day before. It took me over 40 years to become the person I am today. It wasn’t perfect and some days were harder than others, but I never gave up. I remained optimistic that life can always get better as long as I kept faith and hope alive.

With this new lease on life, I thought now would be a good time to shift gears and let you know what to expect from future posts. My overall mission for this blog will be unchanged: Building human connections through shared life experiences. However, rather than sharing the stories of others, my intentions are to document my life and hope that the wisdom from this journey can help someone else.

I will cover topics such as mental health, physical health, spirituality, faith, life lessons, and the ways I will be giving back to the world.

My goal is to one day take my blog content and turn it into a memoir. The good, the bad, and the ugly. You’ll get it all, real and authentic.

Be sure to comment your thoughts and come back each week for a new article.

Until the next Spark,

Kat
